This piece of Lake Superior Agate ranges in color from white to dark gray.
Like many stones, fractures are visible which attests to the severe environment that this specimen was in. Lake Superior Agates were worn out of their host rock by the many glaciers that moved through this area during the ice ages. These glaciers pulverized the surrounding basalt and freed the agate. The outside of the agate is smoothed due to the grinding of the glaciers and also from the sand and water of Lake Superior.
This piece was cut in half and the face has been high speed sanded. The exterior of the stone as just as it was found. The weight of this half is 2 3/4 oz and is approx. 2 1/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches tall and 1 1/4 inches deep (at its thickest point).
A display stand comes with the purchase of this item. (Size 1)
